Vibration and noise problems caused by wear of slurry pump

1. Vibration caused by wear of slurry pump

During long-term use of slurry pumps, internal components such as impellers and pump bodies may experience wear and tear, leading to equipment imbalance or decreased structural strength, resulting in vibration. The specific reasons include:

Internal factors:

Wear and tear of pump body: With the increase of usage time, frequent sealing operations are carried out inside the pump body, resulting in huge pressure and friction, which leads to damage to the pump body, thereby affecting its drainage performance and causing vibration

Impeller wear: As a critical component, the impeller is prone to damage when in contact with materials during high-speed rotation, resulting in surface scratches, distortions, and other issues. This can alter the quality distribution of the impeller, causing imbalance and ultimately leading to vibration.

External factors:

Improper operation mode: If the operation of the slurry pump is not standardized (such as frequent start stop, long-term continuous operation), it will also accelerate the aging and wear of mechanical components, further exacerbating vibration phenomena.

Cavitation wear: When the pressure of the pumped mud is less than or equal to the vaporization pressure at the site temperature, some of the liquid in the mud will vaporize and form bubbles. When these bubbles burst, they will generate strong shock waves, causing damage to the inner wall of the pump and also causing severe vibrations.

2. Noise caused by wear and tear of slurry pump

Wear and tear can also cause abnormal noise in the slurry pump. The main reasons are as follows:

Mechanical noise: Worn parts no longer fit tightly, and there may be looseness or impact during movement, producing additional noise. In addition, wear and tear may also disrupt the original balance state, causing unnecessary vibration of rotating parts and resulting in noise.

Fluid dynamic noise: After wear and tear, the shape of the internal flow channel of the pump changes, which may cause liquid flow disorder, such as turbulence, liquid flow separation, etc. These are important sources of noise generation. Especially when cavitation occurs, the formation and rupture of bubbles will produce intermittent impact sounds.

In summary, in order to reduce vibration and noise issues caused by wear and tear, it is recommended to regularly inspect and maintain the slurry pump, and take appropriate protective measures to slow down the wear rate and ensure the normal and stable operation of the equipment. For example, choosing more wear-resistant materials to manufacture vulnerable parts, optimizing design to reduce wear risks, and other methods can effectively improve this situation.
