Frequent Replacement of Overflowing Parts: Difficulties in Maintaining Slurry Pumps

Slurry pumps are widely used in various industries, especially in coal, mining, metallurgy, and other fields, for transporting solid-liquid mixtures containing solid particles. However, due to its complex and abrasive working environment, the flow components of slurry pumps (such as impellers, volutes, protective plates, etc.) are prone to wear and tear, requiring frequent replacement. This not only increases maintenance costs but also affects the normal operation time of the equipment.

1. Reasons for wear of overcurrent components

The main problem with slurry pumps is the severe wear and tear of their flow-through components, which is a key factor affecting the efficiency and service life of slurry pumps Overcurrent components are usually made of wear-resistant materials such as high chromium cast iron, but even so, these components will still quickly wear out under harsh working conditions. For example, in a beneficiation plant, the working conditions of the ore preliminary selection section are particularly harsh, resulting in a generally low service life of the slurry pump.

2. Methods to reduce wear of overcurrent components

To extend the lifespan of overcurrent components and reduce replacement frequency, the following measures can be taken:

Select high-quality materials: Use more wear-resistant materials to manufacture overcurrent components, such as silicon carbide ceramic materials or high chromium manganese wear-resistant cast iron materials. These materials can significantly improve wear resistance, thereby extending the service life of components

Optimization design: By improving the design of the snail shell and impeller, the fluid flow is made smoother and the impact force on the flow passage is reduced. For example, designing the snail shell in a snail shape is beneficial for converting kinetic energy into static pressure energy when the slurry flows outward, reducing wear.

Regular maintenance: Regularly inspect and tighten the foundation and pump casing bolts to ensure that the equipment is clean, dry, free of oil stains and leaks. In addition, regularly clean the pipelines to ensure unobstructed flow and prevent medium sedimentation from affecting the next start-up and operation.

3. Reasonable replacement principle

It is necessary to replace overcurrent components that have been worn to a certain extent in a timely manner. Although there is currently no unified replacement standard, a reasonable replacement strategy can be developed based on actual usage. For example, when insufficient flow, decreased efficiency, or obvious mechanical failures are detected, replacement of relevant components should be considered.

In summary, by selecting appropriate materials and techniques, combined with good maintenance habits, the frequent replacement of overcurrent components encountered during the maintenance of slurry pumps can be greatly alleviated.
