Working principle of high-power and high head slurry pump


Centrifugal force effect

High power and high head slurry pumps increase the energy of solid and liquid mixed media by utilizing centrifugal force (rotation of the pump impeller). When the impeller rotates at high speed, it drives the surrounding liquid and solid particles to rotate together, generating centrifugal force. This centrifugal force causes liquid and solid particles to be thrown towards the edge of the pump casing, thereby increasing their energy and converting it into kinetic and potential energy.

Transportation of solid-liquid mixed media

The slurry pump transports a mixture of solid particles containing slag and water. Due to its design ability to handle high concentrations of solid particles, it is widely used in industries such as mining, metallurgy, and chemical engineering. For example, in steel enterprises, slurry pumps are commonly used for slurry transportation in systems such as converter dust removal water, blast furnace gas washing water, continuous casting turbid circulating water, and steel rolling turbid circulating water.

Structural characteristics

In order to meet the requirements of high head and high power, slurry pumps usually have the following structural characteristics:

Wear resistant materials: Due to the presence of a large number of solid particles in the conveying medium, the flow components of pumps are usually made of high-strength, wear-resistant, and corrosion-resistant materials, such as wear-resistant alloys, to extend their service life.

Large channel design: In order to improve the passing capacity, slurry pumps usually adopt a large channel anti clogging hydraulic component design, which can pass through fiber materials with a diameter of 5 times the pump diameter and solid particles with a diameter of about 50% of the pump diameter.

Mechanical seal: Three series mechanical seals are used, made of hard alloy, with good wear resistance and sealing performance, ensuring the safe and continuous operation of the pump.

Maintenance and upkeep

In order to maintain the efficient operation of the slurry pump, regular maintenance and upkeep are required, including checking the wear of the pump body, impeller, seals and other components, cleaning the pump body and filter, checking the lubrication of bearing seats, bearings, seals and other components, and regularly checking the operating status of the motor.
