Specification requirements for installation of slurry pump pipelines

The installation of slurry pump pipelines must strictly follow core specifications such as valve configuration, pipeline slope and support, and sealing guarantee to ensure efficient and safe operation of the system.

Slurry pumps are used to transport highly abrasive media containing solid particles, such as slurry and coal slurry. Improper installation of their piping system can easily cause cavitation, blockage, leakage, or equipment damage. Therefore, the installation must take into account the principles of fluid mechanics, wear resistance requirements, and mechanical stability.

Core Installation Specification

1. Valve configuration requirements

The correct valve type and installation sequence are the foundation for ensuring operational logic and equipment safety.

Gate valve: Fully open or cut off the flow of medium, both the inlet and outlet need to be installed for easy maintenance and isolation.

Check valve (check valve): to prevent the impeller from reversing due to medium backflow during shutdown, it should be installed at the pump outlet and before the gate valve.

Regulating valve: controls flow and pressure, recommended to use V-shaped ball valves or eccentric rotary valves, installed at the end of the outlet pipeline.

Exhaust valve: Remove air from the high point of the pump body to avoid cavitation, installed at the highest point of the pump body, with a diameter of DN20-DN50.

Flush valve: After shutdown, flush the residual slurry in the pump chamber and connect it to the high-pressure water pipeline (≥ 0.3MPa).

Suggested layout sequence:

Inlet pipeline: filter → gate valve → pump

Export pipeline: pump → check valve → gate valve → regulating valve

2. Pipeline design and connection

The reasonable selection of pipe diameter and connection method directly affect the efficiency and service life of the pump.

Pipe diameter selection: The suction pipe diameter should be ≥ the pump inlet diameter to prevent cavitation; The discharge pipe diameter is generally equal to or slightly larger than the outlet.

Avoid gas accumulation: Any part of the inlet pipe should not be higher than the pump inlet, and should be horizontal or inclined downwards to prevent the phenomenon of "gas bags".

Reduce resistance: Try to shorten the length of the pipeline as much as possible, reduce the number of bends, and avoid using inverted U-shaped pipes.

Connection method:

Recommend flange connection for easy disassembly and maintenance;

Align the gaskets between flanges, and do not forcefully tighten bolts to correct misalignment.

3. Support and fixation

The weight of the pipeline must not be borne by the pump body, otherwise it will cause vibration, deformation, and even damage.

Both the inlet and outlet pipes need to be independently supported and firmly secured;

The bracket should be securely installed on the ground or wall and cannot transfer the load to the pump.

4. Sealing and Leak Prevention

Poor sealing can lead to inability to absorb water or a decrease in efficiency.

Air leakage is strictly prohibited in the inlet pipe, otherwise it will affect the self-priming ability;

The water outlet pipe must not leak, especially under high pressure conditions which may cause personal injury.

5. Installation of special components

Expansion joint: It should be installed between the pump suction port and the suction pipe for easy disassembly and assembly.

Reducing pipe: If a diameter change is required, an eccentric reducing pipe should be used, and the upper part should be flat and the lower part should be inclined to facilitate exhaust.

Pressure gauge: installed on the straight pipe section between the pump outlet and the first valve to ensure accurate readings.

Conclusion

The core of slurry pump pipeline installation lies in reasonable selection, scientific layout, reliable support, and tight sealing. Following the above specifications can effectively prevent problems such as cavitation, blockage, and leakage, extend equipment life, and ensure continuous and stable operation.
