Preparation work before commissioning of slurry pump

Before the commissioning of the slurry pump, a comprehensive inspection of the mechanical, electrical, lubrication, sealing, and system connections must be completed to ensure correct steering, proper lubrication, sufficient pump filling, and unobstructed pipelines. The turning and parameter verification must be carried out according to specifications before safe start-up.

Before formal operation, the slurry pump needs to undergo strict debugging and preparation to prevent faults such as dry running, reverse running, leakage, or overload, ensuring the service life and operational safety of the equipment. The preparation work covers multiple aspects from basic installation to detailed adjustments, especially for working conditions with solid particle media, special attention should be paid to sealing, cooling, and suction conditions.

Main Preparation Work Classification Explanation

1. Mechanical and structural inspection

Check whether the anchor bolts, couplings, pump body and pipelines are firm and free of looseness.

Ensure that the coaxiality of the motor and pump meets the requirements to avoid vibration and wear caused by poor alignment.

For packing sealed pumps, manual turning should be flexible and frictionless; If there is resistance, adjust the impeller clearance.

2. Lubrication and cooling system confirmation

Check the oil level and quality of the bearings, and add the specified type of lubricating grease (such as lithium based grease No.2 or No.3).

The amount of lubricating oil should be 1/3-1/2 of the bearing space. Too much can lead to poor heat dissipation, while too little can cause dry friction.

The cooling water system should be unobstructed, and the water pressure and volume should meet the regulations. Special attention should be paid to not using excessive water flow for water-cooled bearings.

3. Sealing and shaft seal preparation

The slurry pump using mechanical seal must ensure the supply of shaft seal water, and it is strictly prohibited to operate without water, otherwise it will cause the seal to burn out.

The packing seal needs to adjust the gland nut in advance to make the leakage drop like, while monitoring the temperature rise of the packing chamber.

Before starting, open the shaft seal water, check for leaks, and tighten the packing in a timely manner.

4. Steering and electrical inspection

Disconnect the coupling and jog the motor to confirm that the motor direction is consistent with the direction of the pump body arrow. Reverse rotation is strictly prohibited to prevent impeller detachment.

Check whether the electrical equipment, cable connections, and protective devices are intact and reliable.

If a reversal is found, the power supply can be switched to correct the wiring of any two phases.

5. Pump filling and exhaust operation

Except for self-priming, all slurry pumps must be filled with liquid before starting to eliminate internal air and prevent cavitation or inability to fill water.

It can be determined whether the pump is fully filled by opening the exhaust valve at the top of the pump body or observing the drainage situation.

6. System and process condition verification

Check the specific content source of the project

Import and export valve status: The outlet valve is closed and started (centrifugal pump type), and the inlet valve is fully open.

Inhalation pipeline: no air leakage, no blockage, intact barrier, preventing large particles from entering.

Slurry pool liquid level: The water level is higher than the allowable minimum value (such as>1.2m).

Disturbance generator operation: The corresponding disturbance generator has been activated to prevent sedimentation and accumulation.

Inverter setting: Adjust the initial frequency to less than 10% to prevent sudden start-up impact.

For some high-temperature working conditions, the pump still needs to be warmed up, with a temperature rise of no more than 50 ° C per hour. The pump should be turned half a circle every 5-10 minutes to prevent thermal deformation.

Next step

Only after completing all the above checks can the power be turned on for trial operation. Suggest establishing a 'Pre commissioning Checklist' and checking each item to avoid missing key steps. For newly installed or repaired pumps, close monitoring of current, vibration, temperature, and water output should be carried out during the first operation. If any problems are found, the pump should be stopped immediately for troubleshooting.
