The impact on material selection
The temperature of the slurry directly affects the selection of the slurry pump, including the type of pump, structural form, material selection, and seal selection. In particular, for the slurry conveying certain chemicals, changes in temperature may affect the corrosiveness. Compared with lower-temperature liquids, hot boiling liquids have a greater corrosive effect on materials. Therefore, when selecting materials, the temperature of the slurry needs to be taken into account.
The impact on sealing
The sealing method of the slurry pump is crucial for its operational stability. For instance, if it uses a packing seal, the wear of the packing will accelerate with rising temperatures, and heat is transferred from the packing gland through the shaft to the bearings, leading to a significant reduction in bearing life or even damage.
Partial thermal expansion
At high temperatures, metal parts may expand at different rates. Therefore, special attention needs to be paid to this when selecting models to avoid damage to components or a decrease in performance due to thermal expansion and contraction.
The impact of temperature changes on slurry pump vibration
The abnormal vibration of slurry pumps is the main cause of other faults. The faults generated by the equipment will also directly aggravate the vibration of the equipment, thus causing a vicious cycle, seriously affecting the safe operation of the equipment, and resulting in increased maintenance costs and production losses due to equipment failures.
In response to the impact of temperature changes on the operation of slurry pumps, the following countermeasures can be taken:
Cooling measures
In order to extend the service life of slurry pumps, some cooling measures can be taken. For example, the double-end face slurry pump mechanical seal can adopt circulating flushing and external cooling, which can make the service life reach 1.5~2 times that of the single-end face desulfurization pump. The metal bellows mechanical seal structure is compact and easy to install, under the same auxiliary system, the service life is 2~3 times that of ordinary seals. The single-end face seal of the slurry pump can adopt injection flushing, the flushing liquid is wax oil of about 100℃, and the pressure is 0.05~0.15 Mpa higher than that of the seal cavity. The outer side of the pressing cover adopts emergency cooling with hot water (soft water), which can generally be used for one cycle (ten months). In addition, a cooling water jacket can be set around the seal cavity, and cold water is passed for cooling, which can reduce the temperature of the seal cavity to 200~250℃.
Regular maintenance and inspection
Regular maintenance and inspection of slurry pumps, along with timely replacement of worn or loose components such as bearings and seals, can effectively prevent failures caused by temperature changes.
Reasonable Selection
During the selection stage of slurry pumps, it is essential to fully consider the expected working temperature range, choose suitable materials and sealing forms, which can improve the stability and durability of slurry pumps under different temperature conditions.
In summary, temperature changes have a multifaceted impact on the operation of slurry pumps. By taking appropriate cooling measures, regular maintenance, and reasonable selection of types, these challenges can be effectively addressed to ensure the stable operation of slurry pumps.
