What cannot be avoided during the use of a slurry pump is wear. So how to prevent the wear of the slurry pump? First of all, we must know the type of wear and the pattern of wear in order to prevent wear and tear in a timely and effective manner and take maintenance measures according to its wear and tear. Overseas, the grinding of slurry pumps transporting solid-liquid mixtures has been theoretically studied on the wear mechanism and wear rules. At the same time, a large amount of experimental work has been carried out to propose protective measures for pump wear.
(1) Slurry pump wear mechanism
1. Cavitation wear
The destruction of spherical cavitation bubbles in liquids does not occur instantaneously, but occurs through multiple decay processes. In this process, the liquid rushes towards the center of the cavitation at a very high speed, and most of its kinetic energy is converted into spherical shock waves that propagate in all directions at the instant when a new cavitation is formed. The mechanical force of the shock wave acting on the wall surface of the flow-circulating structural element is the main cause of cavitation wear.
2. Abrasive wear
The wear of the flow-passing parts of the slurry pump belongs to abrasive wear. According to the wear characteristics, starting from the fastest wearing parts, the wear order is: pump body tongue; blade inlet edge; impeller seal ring; shaft seal; suction side pump chamber; pump body diffusion pipe.
(2) Patterns of wear of slurry pumps
When a slurry pump pumps a solid-liquid mixture, the most severely worn component is the impeller, followed by the pump body or sheath, guard plate and other flow-passing components. The wear of the pump body depends on the intrinsic relationship between the following parameters and factors:
1. Rheological properties of solid-liquid mixtures.
2. Solid particle size gradation, particle shape, hardness and density, etc.
3. Pump structural form and parameters.
4. Pump speed or impeller circumferential speed.
5. Performance of pump materials, such as hardness, strength, elongation, acid and alkali resistance, heat resistance, etc.
Therefore, everyone can perform targeted maintenance and maintenance on the slurry pump based on the above points to extend the service life of the slurry pump.
