How to improve the accuracy of adjusting the clearance between impellers of slurry pumps

1、 Follow the correct adjustment steps

Adjustment of impeller clearance for slurry pump with central open bracket

Loosen the adjustment screw of the bearing box, which is the starting step for adjustment and prepares for subsequent operations. Loosening this screw can enable other components to move and adjust the impeller clearance.

Uniformly tighten the bearing box compression nut to move the rotor assembly towards the pump head, while tightening and turning (the turning direction should be according to the working direction of the pump) until the disc stops moving. During this process, it is important to tighten the nuts evenly to ensure that the rotor moves smoothly towards the pump head. Turning the steering wheel according to the pump's operation is to avoid damage to the pump and accurately move the rotor to the appropriate position, so that the gap between the impeller and the front guard plate reaches the expected state.

Measure the gap δ=a between the bearing box flange and the bracket end face with a feeler gauge, and at this time, the gap between the impeller and the front guard plate is 0. By measuring the gap with a feeler gauge, the current gap value can be accurately obtained, providing accurate data basis for subsequent adjustments.

Loosen the compression nut of the bearing housing to create conditions for the next adjustment step, allowing the rotor to move in the opposite direction.

Uniformly tighten the adjustment screws of the bearing box to move the rotor assembly towards the motor direction. Use a feeler gauge to check the gap δ until δ=a+(0.75-1.00) mm (take the larger value for large pumps), and pay attention to the uniform and consistent gap. Here, a feeler gauge is used again to ensure that the clearance reaches the specified range, and a uniform and consistent clearance is crucial for the stable operation of the pump.

Tighten the bearing box compression nut to fully fix the axial position of the rotor, adjust the impeller clearance, and fix the position of the rotor to prevent displacement during operation.

Adjustment of impeller clearance for slurry pump with cylindrical bracket

Loosen the clamping nut of the bracket, which is the first step in adjusting the clearance between the impeller of the cylindrical bracket slurry pump, providing operational space for subsequent adjustments.

Adjust the screw to move the rotor forward and rotate it while adjusting (the rotation direction should be consistent with the pump's rotation direction) until the plate stops moving. Rotating in the direction of the pump's rotation can ensure that the rotor's movement is in line with the pump's working state, and moving to a position where it can no longer move can determine a reference point for subsequent adjustments.

Draw a straight line as a mark at the connection between the bracket and the spool, which can help accurately determine the movement distance of the rotor during the subsequent adjustment process and improve the accuracy of the adjustment.

Adjust the nut to move the rotor back 0.75-1.00 millimeters (larger for large pumps) after assembly, lock the adjustment nut, and fix the axial position of the rotor. Accurately move the rotor backwards the specified distance according to the markings to achieve the appropriate impeller clearance, and then tighten the nut to fix the position.

Tighten the bracket clamping nut to complete the entire adjustment process, ensuring that all components are in a stable state.

2、 Using appropriate measuring tools

Correct use of feeler gauge

A feeler gauge is a key tool for measuring the clearance between impellers. When measuring, it is necessary to ensure that the depth of the plug gauge inserted into the gap is appropriate, neither too shallow to cause inaccurate measurement, nor too deep to avoid damaging the plug gauge or other components. At the same time, multiple measurements should be taken at different positions, as there may be uneven clearance between the impeller and the front guard plate (or other related components). By taking the average of multiple measurements, a more accurate clearance value can be obtained.

3、 Strictly operate according to the type and requirements of the pump

Operation differences of pumps with different inner liners

Metal lined pump: When adjusting the impeller clearance, first stop the pump, loosen the bolts that press the slurry pump bearing components, tighten the nuts on the adjusting bolts to move the bearing assembly forward, and at the same time manually rotate the drive shaft (in the direction of pump rotation) until the impeller rubs against the front (or rear) guard plate. For metal lined pumps, loosen the nut that was just tightened half a turn, then tighten the front nut on the adjusting bolt to move the bearing assembly backwards. At this time, the gap between the impeller and the front guard plate is between 0.5-1mm. By following this specific operating procedure, the impeller clearance of the metal lined pump can be accurately adjusted, as each step of the operation is designed based on the structure and working principle of the metal lined pump.

Rubber lined pump: First, tighten the nut on the adjusting bolt to move the bearing assembly forward, so that the impeller contacts the front sheath. Then, move the bearing assembly backward, so that the impeller contacts the rear sheath. Measure the total movement distance of the bearing assembly, take half of this distance as the gap between the impeller and the front and rear sheaths, and adjust the position of the bearing assembly by adjusting the bolt to ensure that the gap value between the impeller and the front and rear sheaths is correct after adjustment. The structural characteristics of the lining rubber pump determine this special adjustment method, and strictly following this process can improve the accuracy of impeller clearance adjustment.
