Slurry pump is a device used to transport slurry containing solid particles, widely used in mining, coal preparation, desulfurization and other fields. In order to prevent slurry leakage and external air from entering the pump, slurry pumps usually use three types of shaft seals: packing seal, secondary impeller seal, and mechanical seal. The following provides a detailed introduction to the characteristics and application scenarios of these three types of shaft seals.
1. Packing seal
characteristic:
Simple structure: The packing sealing structure is simple, easy to install and maintain.
Cheap price: Low cost, suitable for projects with limited budget.
Large leakage: Due to the large contact area between the packing and the shaft, the leakage is relatively high.
Large power loss: Friction between the packing and the shaft can lead to significant power loss.
Application scenarios:
General medium transportation: suitable for transporting general media, especially in situations where leakage requirements are not high.
The second stage and above of the series pump: In the heavy medium coal selection system of the coal industry, due to the short conveying pipeline and small head, the series connection form is usually not used, so the packing seal is less used.
Convenient maintenance: In situations that require frequent maintenance, packing seals are favored for their simple structure and easy replacement.
2. Secondary impeller seal
characteristic:
Contactless seal: The secondary impeller seal relies on fluid dynamic action for sealing, which belongs to the non-contact seal type.
No need for shaft seal water: No additional shaft seal water is required, reducing water consumption and dilution.
Good sealing effect: In situations where dilution of the slurry is not allowed, the sealing performance of the secondary impeller is excellent.
High power loss: Compared to mechanical seals, the power loss of the secondary impeller seal is higher.
Application scenarios:
When the water source is sufficient and the water pressure meets the requirements, the secondary impeller seal is the preferred solution, especially widely used in coal washing systems.
Dilution of slurry is not allowed: In the coal washing system, for process sections such as qualified medium pumps that do not allow dilution of slurry, the sealing of the secondary impeller is preferred.
Low pressure impurity containing liquid: suitable for transporting low pressure impurity containing liquids, such as slurry pumps in mineral processing, coal preparation and other process flows.
3. Mechanical seal
characteristic:
High reliability: Mechanical seals have high reliability and a long service life.
Low leakage: Almost no leakage, suitable for transporting toxic and highly corrosive liquids.
Strong adaptability: Strong adaptability to external conditions, suitable for media with different viscosities, strong corrosiveness, and solid particles containing abrasives.
High installation requirements: During installation, it is necessary to protect the friction surface to avoid wear and tear.
Application scenarios:
High reliability requirements: In situations where high sealing performance is required, such as transporting toxic and highly corrosive liquids, mechanical seals are the best choice.
Water shortage or unstable water pressure: In situations of water shortage or unstable water pressure, mechanical seals are a better choice.
Multiple sealing forms: Mechanical seals come in various forms such as single end mechanical seals and double end mechanical seals, and the appropriate sealing form can be selected according to specific working conditions.
summary
Choosing the appropriate shaft seal form is crucial for the safe operation of slurry pumps. The packing seal structure is simple and inexpensive, but it has a large leakage volume; The sealing effect of the secondary impeller is good, but the power loss is high; Mechanical seals have high reliability and low leakage, but require high installation standards. Reasonable selection of shaft seal form based on specific working conditions and requirements can effectively improve the operating efficiency and safety of slurry pumps.
